Full IOC recognition proposed to 4 IWGA members

Four member federations of the International World Games Association (IWGA) were among the six federations that the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee proposed for approval by the IOC Session for full IOC recognition. The World Games family congratulates the federations in question!

According to the IOC, IWGA members International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA), provisionally recognised in 2016, and International Sambo Federation (FIAS), World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) and World Lacrosse, all provisionally recognised in 2018, have fulfilled all the criteria requested from them. Their statutes, practice and activities conform with the Olympic Charter, and they have adopted and implemented the World Anti-Doping Code and the Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of Manipulation of Competitions. Furthermore, they all maintain their independence and autonomy in the governance of their sport and meet the criteria outlined in the recognition procedure for summer and winter sports. The other two federations who complete the list are International Federation Icestocksport (IFI) and International Cheerleading Union (ICU).

IWGA CEO Joachim Gossow congratulates the federations and says:

“We are happy for these federations! From our point of view, this confirms the good work in the federations – not least as members of The World Games family. And it confirms the fact that this good work is also perceived by the IOC.”

The IOC Session, which will meet in Tokyo ahead of the Olympic Games, is set to decide upon the Executive Board’s recommendation.

The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee.
